The build, in the order you lay it
- Sub-base Crushed Rock Class 2 20mm100-150 mm

Compact the base in 50-75 mm layers, wetting each one lightly. The bedding layer is screeded flat and left loose - compacting it defeats the purpose, and a thick bedding layer is the most common cause of pavers settling unevenly.

Lay the base in two roughly 50 mm layers and compact each before adding the next. Dampen the toppings before compacting - dry will not bind, and soaked turns to slurry under the plate.
